Spring’s Blooms

March 10th, 2008

These bright blooms were photographed at the Toledo Botanical Gardens in the spring of 2007. A few weeks of warming weather brought a rush of color to the landscape, and no where was it more apparent, than at the botanical garden.

Oh – and while I’m at it… Happy 311 Day.

I caught a Mud Hens game this week. We try to make a point of seeing them every Spring to welcome the warm weather. The Hens eventually blew a big lead to drop the game to the Rochester Red Wings but it was still a great day at the ballpark. I caught this shot on my cellphone early in the 4th inning.

Greening Up

April 16th, 2007

Amazing what a few warm days and some rain can do to the landscape. Though we’re a couple weeks behind the progress in the Central part of the state, Toledo is greening-up around us. It seems to take ages to get to this stage, and then in a blink, it’s full fledged summer.

Blanket

February 12th, 2007

Our first real storm of the winter. I’ve waited patiently for months to get a good snowfall and it took till mid-February for it to happen. With blizzard conditions, Toledo ground to a halt mid-week. It snowed, nearly non-stop, for two days and gave us quite a blanket of snow. Thankfully, we dodged the ice that fell to our south.

Negative

January 29th, 2007

The cold grip of winter finally grabbed us this week. Everyday, the temperature struggles to get above 10 degrees. Windchills stay between -15 and -25. Midmorning, on this particular day, the temperature was a steamy -1 degree Fahrenheit. I can’t imagine that it can stay this cold for very long. In the meantime, we’re all staying bundled up.

Caught this shot of several former University of Toledo atheletes being honored at halftime of a basketball game. Chester Taylor, running back for the Minnesota Vikings, is on the right end in the line of honorees (wearing a black coat) While at Toledo, Taylor set school and conference records for rushing yards and touchdowns. In 2001, he led the Rockets to an impressive victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Motor City Bowl. He was named the MVP of the game with 149 yards (Then a Motor City Bowl Record) and a touchdown.

Taylor ranked seventh in nation for the 2001 season with 1,492 rushing yards (268 attempts, 5.3 yards-per-carry) and 20 touchdowns. He also hauled in 26 receptions for 242 yards and three touchdowns, with a longest reception of 43 yards. Taylor was named North Team MVP in the 2002 Hula Bowl. This performance, along with an outstanding collegiate career in general, catapulted Chester into the 2002 NFL Draft.

Autumn Flakes

October 2nd, 2006

Hard to believe the first snowflakes of the year fell on such a beautiful fall day, but they did. Between the breaks of sunshine thick clouds rolled over and we had repeated snow showers for the afternoon. The trees at the park didn’t seem to care one bit though and just followed their mid-autumn routine.

Rocket Win

September 11th, 2006

Back at the Glassbowl for our home opener – the Rockets defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 37 – 31 in double overtime. It was great to see the midnight blue and gold in action and share the crazy game with a great group of friends.
